Casey’s Story

“Casey’s Song” is the true story of the mother of nine children. She was rushed to the emergency room one night and told that she had a very aggressive form of leukemia and she may not make it through the night. This revelation brought shock and awe through the ranks of her family. No one could have expected something like this. And even in the dark corners of ones mind, where the possibility exists, such a timeline is unthinkable. No one really knew what was happening or how to handle it.

But Casey doesn’t know how to die.

She made it through the night. She made it through the next night. She made it through the week. She made it through the month. Casey made it through the summer.

Casey doesn’t know how to die.

Casey and her army fought this disease like champs. Casey is now in remission.

I wrote this song as a tribute to Casey and her family as seen through the outpouring of love and support they received from across the globe. See, Casey and her family made a career out of investing in people’s lives. They give, build up, and support their community and beyond on a scale that ranges from dollars to supernovas. It is truly something incredible. What I found to be even more incredible was that at this moment in time, all that they gave started to come back. Tens of thousands of dollars came in from all corners of the world to help support family life and put a dent in Casey’s medical bills. Mothers committed to helping with the children and schoolwork. Local families supplied meals, clothes, and school supplies. College students, who work closely with the family for the summer, put their college careers on hold to stay and help in whatever way they could. The selfless giving that Casey and her army had practiced for so many years made an impact and now they were on the receiving end. It was inspiring and eye opening. Love when given continuously, and without expectation of being returned, is the greatest investment one could ever make. I was lucky to see this investment pay dividends with high return.

This song is a reminder, mostly for Delilah who is Casey’s youngest, of the great woman her mother is. That during the toughest part of her life people came out of the woodwork to stand by her. People who never forgot the selfless woman who stood by when they needed her. To remind Delilah, and all of us, how to love humans and how impactful we can be on the world simply by loving selflessly.

Enjoy the new video featuring all of Casey's children.

Special thanks to Molly Sevcik and Hannah Vogt for filming and editing this video.
